Elder berries have been found to have potent anti-viral actions and are used to prevent or treat influenza and other viral conditions. The anthocyanins found within the berries demonstrate very strong free radical scavenging activity, making it a potent anti-oxidant used to protect cells from internal and external oxidative damage.

Both the flowers and berries are used to enhance immunity and alleviate symptoms of the common cold, sinusitis and hay fever.

Anti-inflammatory  /  Anti-oxidant  /  Anti-viral  /  Immune enhancer  /  Diuretic 

Other uses :

To make an immune boosting syrup ; slowly simmer down a combination of elder berries, ginger, cinnamon and cloves in water.
